The Older Infants have had a busy morning reading books about spring. They learned about being on the lookout for robins, worms and the like. They carried this further by looking for these signs out their own classroom window. And that was followed by playing in oatmeal in the texture table - maybe they were digging for pretend worms! Oatmeal everywhere, boy it's fun to be 1.
The snow is finally melting in the back field and the Toddlers are taking full advantage of this by hiking waaaaay out to the back of the hills. This feels so good after so many sub-zero days where we were cooped up inside. You should see them eat lunch and sleep after that - wow! There's nothing like fresh air and exercise to zonk out the little ones (big ones too)! The Kindergarteners are having a special event this week. They are hosting a reading/pizza party and inviting some of the senior citizens from Wescourt to join them. It is so sweet to see the children paired up with the seniors and reading the beginning reader books to them. Their skills are really taking off this week as they add second vowels to words. Readers are leaders! Valentine's Day parties are going on tomorrow in all the classrooms form older infants on up to kindergarten. If your child is handing out valentines they don't have to have each friend's name on them, it can just have your child's name in the "From:" part. This makes it easier to deliver. Hugs and Kisses on Valentine's Day from all of the Little Sweethearts at Great Beginnings!
Just wanted to let everyone know that we will be open as usual on Monday morning 2/10/14. We had a problem with one of our furnaces, the motor seized and sent some smoke into the infant room. There was no fire, but the fire department did come and check everything out from top to bottom just to make sure. We are fine and the furnace is being fixed right now. We did close for the day just to be on the safe side and to air out the rooms. We are so very sorry for the inconvenience to all of our families. I'm sure you all understand the need for extra caution when it comes to caring for your little ones. Enjoy your weekend and we'll see you on Monday.
Our Kindergarten class celebrates their 100th day of school today! There are 100 streamers hanging in the room, they are counting out and eating 100 fruit loops, they are running 100 laps around the classroom in sets of 5. The children have even brought in collections of 100 items from home: legos, marshmallows, chocolate candies. What fun ways to gain the concept of this frequently used number!
We are closing the center Tuesday, January 7th due to the expected wind chill of -30 degrees!! Stay home, stay safe!!
Happy New Year! We pray that 2014 brings you closer to God, that you are blessed with what you need for a full and happy life, and that your time and energy is spent on those you love.
